Skin sense....makes sense

Hi all, I decided I needed to blog about this subject, especially as its close to my heart. I have a teenaged son who has been relatively lucky with his skin going through early teens. But then he has me constantly nagging him to use the correct products on his skin.

As a young man, I think now-a-days it seems more acceptable to use different lotions on your skin. much more of these are available off the shelf and on the high street. In comparison, my husband doesnt believe in an array of lotions for the skin, hair and body. No he thinks they all do the same thing and will on regular occasions wash his hair and body with shampoo!

My son has been lucky in the fact that he hasnt had acne spots that look raised and angry looking. But he had been getting the odd large sore spot. But many smaller red spots, often under the skin, that have appeared all around his neck and backs of the shoulders. more so where he must get hot.
So apart from educating them on good hygiene and remembering to wash the skin throughly. What can be done?
Over the past five years within my salon I have seen a change in skincare and facial treatments. For my clients, abit like some of the other salon treatments. like coloured gels, facials have turned into a treatment that we want to enjoy. but we want them in our lunch break, quickly but with instant effective results.
This is when I introduced microdermabrasion into my salon. I have to say I havent looked back! My standard hands on facial has gone out the window. To be quickly replaced by my 30 minute microdermabrasion facial for the quick lunch time fix. or the other alternative, is to have a full hour treatment incorporating a neck, shoulder and facial massage but with skin smoothing results.

I cant afford the large outlay of a machine?

Skin base microdermabrasion was a great concept that was introduced to me just at the right time. A unique " Pay-as-you-go" system that offers the option of no massive salon outlay for machines and accessories such as consultation cards, and crystals. Free trial period for you introduce the treatment into the salon and to your clients and gain valuable feedback and enable you to see how much earning potential you will have. The machine comes with the trial plus the crystals, marketing tools, consultaion cards and basically everything you need to set you up and running.
It is more than likely after the trial you will be blown away by the results of this treatment and so will your clients.

How I introduced it.....

Because my teenaged son is having issues with his skin. Which I know are mainly hormonal. Its a difficult time for teens when they are conscious of their looks and image. So education and support I feel is crutial, well for me anyway in my job.
So I offer a teen service to help introduce a good skincare routine and every month or six weeks a micrdermabrasion facial. For my son we worked on a low setting and concentrated on the areas he needed work, top of shoulders, neck and lower part of the face.

Open your mind......open the door to more clients

The ideas of how to offer this service are never ending. This is close to my heart with teens because I am living with this at the moment. But for my client base I offer this as part of a seasonal skincare routine for the hands and feet to smooth over dry, weathered skin. fantastic bridal service to hand in for the build up to any occassion. For me with my son, its a another way of offering skincare treatments to male market, without it feeling too girlie and it doeant have to be a full hands on pampering skin contact treatment, if they dont want it to be.....what I am getting at is open your mind to where and when you want good looking skin. You can then introduce this at any stage.
It can also be used on the body to combat cellulite and help condition the skin. So if you have no area for showering in your salon and offering messy bodywraps isnt an option. This is perfect...one machine that can offer so many different varieties of treatments with no additional products.

My son is very lucky to have this treatment on hand. But it doesnt have to be a huge outlay and you have the support and backup from your two week trial period. Full training is given and is essential and used incorrectly this can harm and damage the skin.

I hope I have opened your mind to a different way at looking at skincare and treatments?  Now clients want fast effective results in half the time. This can be offered by you with no stress of massive bills to pay. You just pay as you use the machine, just like a mobile phone! Plus the machine comes in a smart carry case, so it s perfect for mobile salons and high street. Easy.

You know it makes sense....skin sense : )

Fake Tanning: Manual V Spray

Firstly, just to clarify the differences between the two types of fake tanning. Manual tanning is applied directly onto and into the skin that has been prepared usually in a cream or lotion format and then is allowed to develop.Spray tan is applied using a compressor type air gun and is applied in a very fine mist in a liquid format and sits onto the skin until it soaks in and then develops. Manual tanning has made a big come from in recent times. Whilst previously it was all about spray tanning treatments for numerous reasons: quickness of the treatment, even application and less product generally used. But with clients wanting  to come to the salon, or treatment area and enjoy a full treatment that involves them giving up an hour or so of their time. This has really helped the manual tan application see a big come back hit! From my experience of learning many moons ago the application of manual tanning before spray tan was even out there....I know myself, I wasn't too kee

Faceframe 3D Eyebrows: taking the beauty industry by storm!

Having done a lot of extensive research about brow extensions over the past few months. I came across this brand FaceFrame3D. What excited me the most was that they have won an invention award for the concept of this brow treatment. Plus it's a UK designed product. If, like me, you like to go for new treatments to add to your salon menus. This is definitely going to blow you and your clients away. I watched a couple of the YouTube videos and was hooked! I did look around at other brands and designs. But it kept coming right back to this company. The training is all fully accredited with BABTAC and therefore recognised within the industry. It's not the cheapest out there. But then I am not always sure that cheapest is best. You do definitely get what you pay for in this world. What is Faceframe3D?  It is a simple concept of applying synthetic individual hairs that are adhered to the skin to create a 3-dimensional eyebrow can last up to 2 weeks depending on the afterca

Failing to prepare, is to preparing to fail: GCSE VTCT Ten Recommendations

I wanted to put together a guidance list of the ten points that I have learnt along my journey teaching this GCSE qualification in order to help support, guide and assist anyone who is about to start teaching this qualification, considering teaching it, or is currently teaching it and needing some additional guidance from someone who has hands on experience. These are my own personal points and by no means set in stone. So please use them as they were intended to be, as a help list. PREPARE: Now I know this might sound a bit of an obvious point as teachers and educators we are always having to think two steps ahead. But by this I mean have your unit scenarios printed for each learner. Have spaces up on your displays so they can collect them if they have lost theirs (students do love to forget things). Have grade descriptors for the unit printed and if they have them glue them into their books so you can mark as you go along and the students know instantly what grade they are
