6 Shocking Soy Wax Candle Benefits

Candles for me mean so much more than a light source. I love nothing more than a snuggle on the sofa, candle light to create that cozy ambience. It creates calm, lovely soft lighting alongside wonderful fragrances that can take you right back to that special time or place. They can mean romance, they can mean sorrow and joy.
I light a candle in remembrance to my loved ones. We light candles to celebrate birthdays and special occasions by placing them on top of the cake.

The burning question

I often get asked why I chose soy wax for my artisan candles? I get comments that soy is more expensive than say cheaper options such as paraffin wax for example?
Well, the simple answer is if you dig a little deeper you will see that the savings come at a higher cost in the end.
In simple terms, soy wax is better. Better for the environment, better for the home, better for our families and it creates a better perfomring product in my opinion. Which is so important for me when I am creating an artisan product for my customers that needs to suit my brand and my company ethos.

Lets talk candle wax

Soy wax is a relatively new product, it was only discovered in 1991 by a chap trying to find an alternative, more cost effective product to beeswax. Which at that time was massively more expensive than paraffin wax.
I made the conscious decision to use soy wax for my artisan candles. As the name suggests, soy wax is made from Soybean which means it is 100% natural. 100% renewable and 100% environmently friendly. By contrast, paraffin wax is a bi-product of the refinery process for petroleum oil therefore is non-renewable and non-environmnetally friendly. Bees wax was not an option for me being as I provide vegan products, this would not fit into my brand ethos and was more expensive and I felt personally an old style wax to use.
So you see, it was a no brainer for me. The concept of soy wax fits so perfectly into my brand ethos of vegan friendly, eco-friendly, creates a fantastic final product which is good for the planet and my home, family and my customers.

6 Shocking soy wax candle benefits

  1. Longer burning time: Soy wax has a lower melting point which means it burns up to 50% longer than paraffin wax candles.
  2. Non-Toxic: As soy is made from vegetable oil it is clean burning and releases no known carcinogens when it burns. It also menas it is vegan friendly.
  3. Better fragrance throw: Due to its lower melting temperatures of the wax, a healthier melting pool around the wick is created. This wax pool allows the fragrance oils to vaporise more easily, thus releasing more fragrance into your home.
  4. Renewable source: Soybeans are an environmentally friendly, sustainable and renewable source.
  5. Easier to clean: Have no fear, if you do get any unwanted spills of soy wax it is much easier to clean up and get out of fabrics. It is bio-degradable so simply use of soap and water and the wax is removed.
  6. Clean burning: Soy wax burns clean, which means minimal soot is released. We use a combination of cotton and linen in our candle wicks to create the perfect clean burn.

    Until next time....

Fake Tanning: Manual V Spray

Firstly, just to clarify the differences between the two types of fake tanning. Manual tanning is applied directly onto and into the skin that has been prepared usually in a cream or lotion format and then is allowed to develop.Spray tan is applied using a compressor type air gun and is applied in a very fine mist in a liquid format and sits onto the skin until it soaks in and then develops. Manual tanning has made a big come from in recent times. Whilst previously it was all about spray tanning treatments for numerous reasons: quickness of the treatment, even application and less product generally used. But with clients wanting  to come to the salon, or treatment area and enjoy a full treatment that involves them giving up an hour or so of their time. This has really helped the manual tan application see a big come back hit! From my experience of learning many moons ago the application of manual tanning before spray tan was even out there....I know myself, I wasn't too kee...

Ten Common Myths You Need to Know About Nails

I am sure if we all sat round a table we could share a few of these common wives tales. Told to us by our parents, grandparents or siblings.Fact is most of them are just myths, legends, tales, lies. Call them what you must. But its time to lay down some facts about these myths, and set the record straight. Myth One: White spots or marks on your nails means you are lacking in calcium? FALSE It means you have caused trauma to your nail by knocking it or sometimes it can be if you bite your nails or put your fingers in your mouth a lot. It is nothing to do with lacking in calcium. It is amost like a little bruise. Myth Two: Green on the nails means you have fungus growing on them? FALSE Fungi is whitish  yellow in colour and not green. Green markings indicate mold on the nails. This is just like what you get in your bathrooms when moisture gets trapped along with a warm environment. This can often occur when nail enhancements have been on and lifted slightly. W...
