Hands up! Baby hands up!

Lets face it this time of year our skin in general takes a bit of a battering. Its dark, cold and gloomy outside and do we really want to get the moisturiser out and cream ourselves up when it is cold? No one will see.....will they??
Well hands do give a lot away. I have always got a tube of some kind of hand cream in my hand bag. But that doesn't always mean I use it right?

This season the focus is on creamy complexions and glowing skin. This includes the hands especially as they are seen more so. Lets not forget them. Take some time out to exfoliate, rinse and apply a hand mask for ten minutes then apply a lovely fragrant hand cream. Exfoliating will not only instantly take years off the look of the hands, but it will also aid the application of moisturiser to penetrate far deeper into the skins layers and will do more good. Then just sitting on all that dead, dull looking skin if you don't exfoliate.
Boys, we shouldn't forget your hands either. Use all the above but with perhaps a less fragrant hand lotion or cream.

Nails:

Great news is the oval shaped nail is back on trend, the bad news is its probably the hardest shape to master. So practice makes perfect. Oval shaped nails make the nail plate appear longer and are great to create elegant hands. So we wave goodbye, for now. To the stiletto nail shapes.
Another great plus for salon owners and mobile therapists is that with the oval shaped nail being back in fashion, pull back our long lost friend....the acrylic liquid and powder method. Oval nails may make our nails appear longer and more elegant. But lets face it with the side of the nails being taken in, those nails aren't going to be the strongest like our good old friend the square nail or the squoval if you fancied a bit of both!

Colour and art work:

Nail colours are still favouring the nudes this season but with a touch of bold colours mixed with vibrant brights and patterns are big.
Nail art is still right on track with the good old trusty glitters still being a hit. Textures and patterns are big with sand design polishes and matt and glossy finishes. Metallics, silvers and golds look great with nude tones to add a bit of glamour.
Nail art will be more sophisticated and refined with lots of geometric designs, colour blocking and retro patterns.  Mix the two together with perhaps alternating the geometric designs with the odd nails painted nude. Mix it up and create your own unique style with the nails. Nails don't have to be uniform with colour and designs anymore. Its all about putting your stamp on it. Go on....be daring!

Tones:

Lets not forget with all these wonderful nail art patterns and tones and our now lovely shaped nails strengthened with some acrylic liquid and powder. We are going to be drawing some attention to our lovely hands and pinkies. So what better way to compliment our nails than to add a hint of self tan. Paler skins will carry the bold strong vibrant colour tones much easier with a bit of skin colouring. Use a instant tanning product if you just want the look for that day or night or special event. These instant tanning products are great to get the colour, but wash off once you have showered or bathed with soap. Or try a tanning mist if perhaps you aren't feeling too confident about getting your tan even. Remember less is more with tanning, we don't want to look like we have been tangoed!

Planning:

Think about teaming up colours in the salon with make up to offer the client a complete look. Orange lipsticks are the new red, so add this in with your geometric metallic nail designs and create a complete package for your clients to copy the catwalk looks, that will make them be right on trend....hot off the catwalk.
Think about whats hot and not and make sure you are offering all the latest designs and products and equipment to achieve this. You could launch your ideas and some designs and styles with a retro evening creating a couple of looks with make up, hair designs and styles and some nail art to compliment it. Your clients will love to see the catwalk looks being created in front of them and surely will want to know how they can achieve the very latest looks? Get a photographer in to take pictures of the looks created and you can then use these for all latest advertising or salon promotions.

Think. Plan. Achieve.

Promote whats on offer in the salon, show your clients how to achieve the look and the products, treatments and services will sell themselves.
Right, am off to dust down my acrylic powders and get creating some fantastic nail art designs.
Till next time. Love and Sparkle

Fake Tanning: Manual V Spray

Firstly, just to clarify the differences between the two types of fake tanning. Manual tanning is applied directly onto and into the skin that has been prepared usually in a cream or lotion format and then is allowed to develop.Spray tan is applied using a compressor type air gun and is applied in a very fine mist in a liquid format and sits onto the skin until it soaks in and then develops. Manual tanning has made a big come from in recent times. Whilst previously it was all about spray tanning treatments for numerous reasons: quickness of the treatment, even application and less product generally used. But with clients wanting  to come to the salon, or treatment area and enjoy a full treatment that involves them giving up an hour or so of their time. This has really helped the manual tan application see a big come back hit! From my experience of learning many moons ago the application of manual tanning before spray tan was even out there....I know myself, I wasn't too kee

Faceframe 3D Eyebrows: taking the beauty industry by storm!

Having done a lot of extensive research about brow extensions over the past few months. I came across this brand FaceFrame3D. What excited me the most was that they have won an invention award for the concept of this brow treatment. Plus it's a UK designed product. If, like me, you like to go for new treatments to add to your salon menus. This is definitely going to blow you and your clients away. I watched a couple of the YouTube videos and was hooked! I did look around at other brands and designs. But it kept coming right back to this company. The training is all fully accredited with BABTAC and therefore recognised within the industry. It's not the cheapest out there. But then I am not always sure that cheapest is best. You do definitely get what you pay for in this world. What is Faceframe3D?  It is a simple concept of applying synthetic individual hairs that are adhered to the skin to create a 3-dimensional eyebrow can last up to 2 weeks depending on the afterca

Failing to prepare, is to preparing to fail: GCSE VTCT Ten Recommendations

I wanted to put together a guidance list of the ten points that I have learnt along my journey teaching this GCSE qualification in order to help support, guide and assist anyone who is about to start teaching this qualification, considering teaching it, or is currently teaching it and needing some additional guidance from someone who has hands on experience. These are my own personal points and by no means set in stone. So please use them as they were intended to be, as a help list. PREPARE: Now I know this might sound a bit of an obvious point as teachers and educators we are always having to think two steps ahead. But by this I mean have your unit scenarios printed for each learner. Have spaces up on your displays so they can collect them if they have lost theirs (students do love to forget things). Have grade descriptors for the unit printed and if they have them glue them into their books so you can mark as you go along and the students know instantly what grade they are
