Homemade face packs that wont ruin your bank balance

What is the benefit of a face pack or mud pack? Face packs are designed to give your skin a boost when its feeling like it needs a bit of a pick-me-up. The idea is to use them 1-2 times per week depending on your skin type and the reason why you are using them. You need to apply them to freshly cleansed skin, a plus would be to have exfoliated before to allow the products and ingredients to work deeper into the top layer of the skin. Face packs are becoming widely used by men as well as women and prove to have massive skin benefits to men due to the stress that can be caused to their skin through shaving. So ladies...grab a man and get face packing together!  Store cupboard home ingredients Egg white: These have a wonderful astringent property to help draw out block pores and impurities. Mix with a little lemon to add to brightening effect. Coffee: Ground coffee is very good at detoxifying the skin. Ideal if you have been partying hard or just feel like your skin

The Big "Microbead" Debate

If, like me, you watch adverts on TV, or listen on the radio and are drawn into amazing new exciting products and brands that offer us results that we all want right? Who doesn't want bright, white teeth? Or cellulite free skin that looks ageless? I know I want all of these... Its proof that a huge amount of consumers also do because we are buying and the supplier is making to keep up with our demands. In doing this, I think sometimes we may loose touch on why we are using the products and also at what price do we have to pay in order to use them? Did you exfoliate recently with a scrub. Or brushed your teeth with a smooth minty toothpaste? Most likely you have unknowingly smothered polluting plastics on your body and washed them down your drains and therefore into our oceans. Whilst the media leads us into believing these products are great for our skins and bodies. Beauty experts and ethical campaigners are now critising us as to why we need these tiny plastic beads in pro

Scrub-a-dub-dub

Why exfoliate? The process of exfoliation is the removal of dead skin cells. This is considered one of the most important skincare techniques. Without exfoliating you will be encouraging the skin to feel dry, to look dull and pores will be more prone to blockages which can lead to blackheads and spots and pimples. Obviously the amount of times you exfoliate will depend on the type of skin you have. More oily, combination skins should carry out this technique more regularly as their skin is more prone to oil or sebum production. The science part When we exfoliate the skin cells away that are dead, we are removing these from the top layer of the skin, known as the epidermis. This sits on top of the dermis . The skin cells travel from the dermis up to the top layer of the epidermis on a 20-30 day cycle (depending on your age) if you are older, say 35 years your skin will take longer to travel up and therefore need more encouragement to shed itself, than say a teenager. The Salt of the Earth....

What is it? Epsom salts gets its name from the place in which it was discovered, Epsom in England. It is a mineral composed of magnesium and sulfate compounds. Epsom salts can relieve muscular aches and pains whilst also healing cracked skin conditions. Recent studies have also indicated that Epsom salts could alleviate signs of autism in children. Magnesium is believed to play an important role in regulating the bodies functioning. Magnesium sulfate is an essential building block for brain tissue and joint proteins. Magnesium sulfate is known for its absorbency through the skin, it then makes perfect sense to derive it through soaking in bath water. Extra benefits Skin conditions such as dryness, itching, cracked skin, eczema and psoriasis have all shown relieving benefits through regular  use of Epsom salts. Bathing in mineral rich water on a regular basis for 2-3 times per week could be the cosmetic treatment we have all needed. Put aside all the anti-ageing creams

BFF....BB Cream

Trips to the cosmetic counters can be a bit of a brain-ache with so many creams, balms, lotions and gels all telling us how wonderful they are and that we need them in our lives....but do we need them all? What do they actually do? Are they suitable for my skin type? Today I am focusing on BB creams or "beauty balms". These have crept into our stores, online and in lots of editorials as being our BFF (best friend forever) Balm. So I wanted to share with you some facts you may or may not know about this little gem product. What are beauty balms? Also known as  BB  or "beauty balm" or "blemish balm." They were invented in Germany by Dr. Christine Schrammek in the 1960s to help her clients protect their skin after getting laser treatments. yes they really have been around that long! What do they do?  BB creams ideally are supposed to incorporate primers, moisturizers, serums, SPF, and foundation into one product. However, it's important to know
