Failing to prepare, is to preparing to fail: GCSE VTCT Ten Recommendations

I wanted to put together a guidance list of the ten points that I have learnt along my journey teaching this GCSE qualification in order to help support, guide and assist anyone who is about to start teaching this qualification, considering teaching it, or is currently teaching it and needing some additional guidance from someone who has hands on experience. These are my own personal points and by no means set in stone. So please use them as they were intended to be, as a help list. PREPARE: Now I know this might sound a bit of an obvious point as teachers and educators we are always having to think two steps ahead. But by this I mean have your unit scenarios printed for each learner. Have spaces up on your displays so they can collect them if they have lost theirs (students do love to forget things). Have grade descriptors for the unit printed and if they have them glue them into their books so you can mark as you go along and the students know instantly what grade they are

Know your oils

Through my many years of being a beauty therapist and using essential oils for a variety of massages and often having them in room fragrances and scented candles to help the mood of relaxation. Do we really know the difference? Why not just use the fragrance oils, after all they smell amazing, and give the desired effect don't they? I have come across more so recently, fragrance oils, after following a lifetime dream of mine of creating my own cosmetics, bath and skincare products. You may ask the question "What is the difference between a fragrance and an aromatherapy oil?"   Fragrance oils: These types of oils are manufactured scents and can sometimes be called aromatic, perfume or fragrance oils. They are inexpensive and are artificially created scents that contain artificial substances as well. They can be used to create fragrances such as coffee or fresh cut grass and mimic the natural fragrance. Essential oils: Aromatherapy pure essential oils are used in a wa

Shelf Life of your cosmetics

How many of us can honestly say we check all our dates on our cosmetics? Wash your make up brushes and hair brushes regularly? Hmmmm...I can guess the answers to most of those. We are all a little guilty, which is fine with busy lifestyles, family and social commitments. We shop for food and check the dates on those right? So why not pay the same attention to your cosmetics? After all these are going onto your skin or in your hair and on your bodies. Storage of cosmetics: Most will remain safe and fit for purpose for a long time provided they are stored in suitable conditions and not subjected to extreme conditions. Such as high or low temperatures and direct sunlight. To ensure you gain the most from your product store them in a cool, dark, dry place away from direct sunlight with lids firmly on. Shelf life: Products are generally made to last a long time, although it is not always clear how long "long" is?If a product has a limited shelf life (less than 3

Foundation: Best Friend Forever

Like most of you, I have tried my hand at so many different foundation brands, colours and finishes. There are so many now on sale, it makes our decision so hard. First things first, what do you want from your foundation? Is it coverage? Even skin tone? Glowing finish? Mattifying? All in one: concealer, foundation and powder? This question is one that once answered, it will help you narrow down your perfect selection. My BFF foundation recommendation: I am not always an advocate of mega expensive is best. It really does depend on what effect you are wanting. For me, I found my best friend forever foundation a few years ago when I went and did an airbrush make up training session to up-skill myself. Its this little "Bad boy" Airbase Foundation. This product comes in a 30ml bottle in 7 colour tone selections to match up perfectly to your skin tone. You can mix and match colour tones to create a bespoke colour tone. This product is so much more than a foundation. W

Like a Fish Out of Water: Make that career change.

New Year, New You?  Off to the gym you go for a month....if you are lucky? Then its the detox for Summer. Not eating this, only drinking that. We all do it, every single year. How about you make a new start that is all about you, but also about your goals and aspirations? January flew by for me in a blink of an eye. Its supposed to be a quiet month? Not for me, it was full of working deadlines and targets. So February is here and I am sitting thinking where has that month gone as well? So I have decided its time to use my time and collectively decide what I really want for me? Ask yourself that same question?  How often have you thought about what if.......?  What if I won the lottery I would......What if I have a spare 5 minutes I would....If only I had some spare cash I would book...... Guilty as charged on that one! I, like am sure most of you, have said that you are going to book yourself onto more courses, do something that is just for you and not for the family. W
